On Thursday evening at 7:28, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle through the ice on Lake Washington in Darwin Township. Dassel Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and Meeker County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene.

A Sheriff’s Deputy found two people walking near the shore off of 233rd Street in Darwin Township. A 2003 Ford Ranger driven by 25-year-old Alexander Madsen of Litchfield broke through the ice. Madsen and his passenger, 26-year-old Thomas Wold of rural Darwin, were able to get out of the vehicle and water and walk to shore for help.

Madsen and Wold were treated at the scene by Gold Cross Ambulance. The vehicle was fully submerged in the lake and attempts to locate the site were unsuccessful. Also assisting at the scene was Litchfield Rescue. Thin ice signs were posted at the public water access locations. The public is urged to use caution on Lake Washington.
