Meeker County Holiday Project Underway
The 47th annual Meeker County Holiday Project is underway. Toys and cash are being collected to help local families who may have trouble getting gifts for their children.
Rochelle Brummond from United Community Action Partnership says they served just under 600 children last year. She says the Holiday Project began in a church basement 47 years ago, and now, ironically, it will be back in a church basement this year – at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield – on December 14th and 15th as the location they’ve used the past few years is in the midst of a remodeling project.
Brummond says the families involved are notified about the dates and location. She says they take the donated and purchased toys and gifts and set up the space just like a real store.
Brummond says Center Bank will be collecting toys and cash over the next couple of weeks for the Holiday Project and other groups such as the Litchfield Fire Dept. and ABATE collect toys, and checks for the Meeker County Holiday Project may be mailed or dropped off at 120 North Sibley Avenue in Litchfield. She says families in the Project also receive a voucher for a holiday meal and they put together 50 food boxes for elderly residents each year.
