Forest City Stockade Pioneer Christmas
The 27th annual Pioneer Christmas at the Forest City Stockade is this Saturday from 10-to-5. Admission is $5 for adults and it’s free for children 12 and under.
Bob Hermann says the forecast sounds good – not too cold – and there will be music in the chapel, 4 teams of horses providing wagon rides, and the usual food choices such as cream can stew, homemade ice cream, fry bread and lefse. He says there’s a great team of volunteers who help make the event a success each year, and the Stockade is a work in progress.
Hermann says Santa will be at the Forest City Stockade on Saturday for the Pioneer Christmas and the Litzaus will have their trading post above the barn. He says a winter encampment will be set up on the east side of the Stockade.
Dave Knutson, who does maintenance on all of the buildings at the Forest City Stockade, says they’ve been busy this past year with the construction of a new pole barn to house the equipment donated by the family of Wesley Nelson. He says there is a freight wagon in the collection that Wes had in several parades over the years. He says the Pioneer Christmas is a family-friendly, kid-friendly event.
Richard Dollerschell spends much of his time during the summer months mowing the grounds at the Forest City Stockade. He says visiting the Forest City Stockade gives people a good history lesson – like going back in a time machine.
Dollerschell says school children visit the Stockade during field trips in the spring. He says he will be busy on Saturday during the Pioneer Christmas delivering wood to all of the buildings to keep the wood stoves burning, but visitors should still dress warmly.
