An open house for the 2020 Highway 15 Hutchinson project is set for Thursday, August 24th at the Hutchinson Event Center from 4:30-to-6:30 p.m. with a presentation starting promptly at 5 p.m. The public will have the opportunity to learn more about the project through downtown Hutchinson and to ask questions.
A free lunch will be served at Trinity Episcopal Church in Litchfield on Friday, August 25th from 11-to-1. Everyone’s welcome.
The Youth Conservation Field Day at the Gopher Campfire Grounds will be held on Saturday, August 26th – rain or shine. Doors open at 9 a.m. for registration. It begins at 10 a.m. It’s for children ages 6-to-17. The cost is $5. There will be trap shooting, archery, conservation education and more.
Volunteers are needed for a tree planting event at the historic Ness Church – kitchen servers, clean-up and tree planters – on Saturday, August 26th at 11 a.m. The holes will be pre-dug. At noon, there will be a free lunch – hot dogs, chips, beans, bars, cookies and root beer floats – and everyone’s welcome. Ness Church is at 24040 580th Avenue – southwest of Litchfield.
The Litchfield Lions Club will be having their Fly In Breakfast at the Litchfield Airport on Sunday August 27th from 8 a.m. to noon. The menu includes Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage and beverages. Tickets are $7 in advance for adults from Lions members and $8 at the door. It’s $5 for kids 5-to-18 and free for children under 5. There will be a golf cart shuttle service available.
The McLeod County Historic Partnership and the Plato Lions Club presents “Kid Pioneers” at the Plato Park Shelter on Sunday, August 27th from 1-to-3 p.m. – a free event to learn about the youngest of McLeod County’s early pioneers. There will be games, crafts, costumes, stories and prizes.
The Grove City Area CARE program is celebrating its 20th anniversary with an open house on Sunday, August 27th from 2-to-4 p.m. in the South Grove Square gazebo – on the south side of the building. There will be live music and refreshments and everyone is welcome.
The Grove City blood drive will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, August 28th from 1-to-7 p.m. To make an appointment, call Linda at 857-2073.
The regular meeting of the Daughters of Isabella will be on Monday, August 28th at 1 p.m. in the St. Philip’s Church Social Hall in Litchfield. Plans will be discussed for the September 26th retreat.
The Little Red Schoolhouse annual fundraising Picnic will be on Tuesday, August 29th from 5-to-7:30 p.m. Freewill donations will be accepted for hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips, bars and beverages. There will be old-fashioned games for kids and silent auction items. The school is at 20553 County-State-Aid-Highway 28 – south of Litchfield.
The Back to School Salad Luncheon is on Wednesday, August 30th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Philip’s Church Social Hall. The cost is $6. It’s a Catholic United Financial fundraiser.

The Ice Cream Social at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel will be on Saturday, September 2nd after the parade. Freewill offerings will be accepted for BBQ sandwiches, potato chips, pie, ice cream and beverages. Everyone is welcome.
The Sew Friendly Quilt Guild has its 20th annual “Galaxy of Stars” Quilt Show on Sunday, September 3rd from 1-to-5 p.m., and on Monday, September 4th from 9-to-4 at the Covenant Church in Dassel during Red Rooster Days. Over 100 quilts will be displayed, and there will be demonstrations and more.
The 19th annual St. John’s Catholic Church Turkey Supper is on Wednesday, September 6th from 4-to-7 p.m. at the parish hall in Hector. The menu includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, coleslaw, green beans, bread, cranberries, pickles, beverage and pumpkin bars. It’s $10 for adults and youth and $5 for children 4-to-10. Take-out meals are also available.
An Afternoon Tea – a presentation of two one-act plays and table-decorating contest – will be held at the Litchfield Opera House on Saturday, September 9th at 2 p.m. Carole Wendt will direct “A Matter of Husbands,” and “Not My Cup of Tea.” It’s $5 or $40 if you would like to sponsor and decorate a table for 8. A fundraising breakfast for the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter will be held at the American Legion in Litchfield on Sunday, September 10th from 8-to-11:30 a.m. There will French toast and sausage. It’s $7 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under, and free for children 6 and under.
The St. Philip’s Church Bazaar and Car Show is on Sunday, September 10th from 11-to-3 at the Meeker County Fairgrounds. There’s an outdoor mass at 10 a.m., followed by Butch’s Classic Country Music, all kinds of kid’s activities, a country store, bingo, pull tabs, games for all ages, pie & ice cream, food stands and the car show. Raffle tickets are $10 for the $2,000 grand prize drawing at 3 p.m.
